We are seeking a highly skilled Research Vivarium Husbandry Animal Care Technician 2 to join our Insourcing Solutions Department at Charles River Laboratories.
This role involves observing, monitoring, and documenting the health and physical environment within the animal facility, as well as performing animal care and husbandry duties.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Reviewing and complying with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance standards related to laboratory animals for research.
- Maintaining accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by the Institute and facility.
- Performing health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain the quality of health of research animals.
- Assisting with restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site supervisor or facility veterinarian.
- Performing humane euthanasia.
- Receiving, inspecting, and putting away incoming animals; ensuring and providing for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area.
- May be involved in strictly maintaining and following breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels.
- Operating equipment and using supplies according to safety guidelines; performing general housekeeping and adhering to safety procedures.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Biology, or Biological Science preferred.
- A Minimum of two years directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility.
- AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) within 18 months of hire.
The pay for this position is $27.00 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
