Position Overview:

The School of Theatre at Oklahoma City University is seeking applicants from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Theatre. The institution is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive faculty, staff, and student body.

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will become an integral part of our artistic community, responsible for teaching within the School of Theatre and leading the BA in Theatre Innovation and Entrepreneurship (BATIE) program. Key responsibilities include:

  • Instructing core courses in Script Analysis and other specialized areas.
  • Mentoring students enrolled in the BATIE program.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with regional and international entities.
  • Collaborating on the annual student capstone project.

To achieve positive tenure and promotion outcomes, candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, a strong record of creative and scholarly contributions, and significant service to the school, university, and relevant professional organizations. Participation in the school's assessment initiatives and student recruitment efforts is also expected.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess an earned terminal degree in theatre or a related field (ABD candidates are welcome). Previous experience in university-level teaching is preferred. Candidates must have substantial professional experience as a theatre artist and a genuine passion for mentoring undergraduate students. In addition to expertise in Script Analysis, we seek candidates with experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Directing
  • Producing
  • Applied Theatre
  • Dramatic Literature
  • Dramaturgy
  • Arts Administration
  • Playwriting

The School of Theatre provides a comprehensive and diverse range of undergraduate programs, including tracks in professional, educational, and applied theatre training. Our offerings include a BFA in Acting, a BFA in Design and Production, and a BA in Theatre Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which has gained national recognition. Additionally, we offer a unique MFA in Screen Acting, with the first year in Los Angeles and the second year in London.
