Position Summary
The Technical Sales Manager is responsible for overseeing a designated sales territory, nurturing existing client relationships, identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, meeting quarterly sales objectives, and enhancing market presence within the assigned area. This role demands a highly organized, self-motivated individual with a solid technical background in chemistry. A personal vehicle is required, along with the ability to travel as needed and engage with clients.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Activities:
- Engage with and support customers within the assigned territory as outlined by the sales leadership.
- Advocate for the promotion of lubricant and fuel additive products.
- Suggest pricing strategies to the sales manager for consideration.
- Follow up with clients regarding product shipments and satisfaction levels.
- Collect and analyze competitive product data.
- Identify and qualify potential new clients.
- Maintain and expand the existing customer portfolio.
- Develop and finalize new profitable sales initiatives.
- Create action plans and schedules to target key accounts.
- Prepare for client meetings with structured agendas.
- Document outcomes of customer interactions and plan subsequent actions.
- Keep a proactive calendar for client visits.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Technical Support:
- Deliver technical assistance related to chemical products to clients.
- Provide insights on new product developments and changes in industry standards.
- Guide clients on the proper application of products.
- Support inside sales and technical inquiries for house accounts.
- Develop and update sales materials and product knowledge resources.
- Compile various reports on activities, sales closures, and goal adherence, including technical documentation.
- Stay informed about industry-specific equipment and lubricant applications.
Leadership and Communication:
- Facilitate solutions for customer-related technical or logistical challenges.
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Communicate clearly with customers, suppliers, and colleagues across various departments using the most effective communication methods.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- A technical degree from an accredited institution.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience in technical sales or a related field.
Continuous Professional Development:
- Enhance professional and technical knowledge through workshops, professional literature, networking, and participation in industry organizations.
- Engage in ongoing education to remain current with industry trends and best practices.
- Attend relevant trade shows and industry conferences.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to learn and utilize business management software (e.g., SAP, Chempax).
- Competence in information management, including report generation and data analysis.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- Occasional physical activities such as climbing, balancing, bending, and kneeling may be required.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use manual dexterity.
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- The work environment is typically quiet to moderate in noise level.
- May need to lift or move items weighing up to 10 pounds.
