Position Overview

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).

The Vice President of Surgical Services is tasked with the comprehensive leadership and operational management of all surgical and procedural departments within the organization. This includes oversight of operating rooms, post-anesthesia care units, pre-operative areas, endoscopy suites, sterile processing, interventional radiology, and ambulatory surgery centers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a culture of inclusivity and collaboration across departments.

The Vice President collaborates closely with senior management to formulate and implement strategic initiatives that align with the overarching mission and values of the organization. Utilizing data analytics, industry best practices, and national benchmarks, this role aims to enhance processes and achieve excellence in surgical services and perioperative care.

Primary Contact: This position serves as the main liaison for all surgical and procedural areas, responsible for monitoring performance metrics and ensuring that targeted outcomes are met.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field

Preferred Education:

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD

Essential Skills:

  • Proven ability to hold teams accountable for performance outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a capacity to facilitate large-scale organizational change.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence stakeholders at various levels.
  • Flexibility, team orientation, and independent critical thinking are essential.

Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required, including taking on Administrator on Duty (AOD) responsibilities. Travel among various organizational entities is also expected.

Licensure and Certifications

Required Licensure: Must be licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Certification in nursing administration (NE-BC, NEA-BC, CENP)
  • Certified Surgical Services Manager (CSSM)
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR)
  • Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN)
  • Certified Ambulatory Peri-anesthesia Nurse (CAPA)
  • Certified Ambulatory Surgery Nurse (CNAMB)
Experience Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare management, financial oversight, and operational administration within a healthcare environment, including at least 10 years in a leadership capacity within hospital operations.

Experience in a leadership role at a Magnet Designated hospital and academic medical center, with a proven track record of success in a matrixed management structure is essential. Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center is highly desirable, along with expertise in budget management, change management, and process improvement.
