Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking an experienced Engineering Program Manager to lead our Roadway Design Program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the design project development and coordination with District Project Managers to meet scope, schedule, and budget expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure VDOT programs align with the Commonwealth's vision, mission, and goals.
  • Establish priorities for the program in support of overall goals and communicate objectives and priorities to employees.
  • Manage human and fiscal resources by recognizing future needs and taking appropriate actions to address those needs.
  • Provide oversight of the program area to ensure compliance with VDOT, state, and federal policies, practices, guidelines, and specifications.
  • Evaluate program performance and implement changes and procedures as required.
  • Serve as a technical expert and assist in assigned areas of transportation engineering.
Requirements
  • Experience in the management and delivery of customer service by program area.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Valid Professional Engineer's license.
  • Experience supervising staff, programs, and budgets.
  • Knowledge of Civil Engineering principles to include roadway design, survey, hydraulics, traffic design, roadway safety, and construction methods and materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in managing multiple work groups and technical areas of highway design.
  • Experience working with other state agencies and Federal Highway Administration representatives.
  • Experience in highway civil engineering, including highway design, report writing, evaluation, research, and training.
