Mainframe Administrator Job Description

This is a Mainframe Administrator position, focusing on CICS and MVS administration, with a strong emphasis on technical expertise and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and control large IBM-compatible mainframes, DASD storage, and automated tape libraries.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of z/OS Operating Systems, CICS, and related applications, tools, and monitors.
  • Work independently to make decisions and take ownership of critical production applications.
  • Utilize Formula to acknowledge, investigate, close, or escalate alerts, and Remedy to create, document, escalate, and re-assign tickets.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including paging ONCALLs with xMatters and answering calls from the phone queue if necessary.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in a large 7x24 high-availability data center environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of MVS, VTAM, JES, Netview, and large IBM-compatible mainframes.
  • High level of awareness around critical production applications and ability to work independently.
Work Environment:

This role is a hybrid position, with the option to work from either Phoenix or Austin, with a swing shift schedule (2:30pm - 1:00am EST) and flexible hours.
