Park Operations Superintendent Job Description

The Park Operations Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and implementation of programs related to the operation, management, and maintenance of NOVA Parks' facilities and properties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the management of personnel, including planning, directing, and controlling the work of park staff, setting and reviewing annual performance goals, and conducting meetings and trainings to identify and resolve problems.
  • Manage park facilities and programs, including inspecting parks and facilities, enforcing conformance with NOVA Parks standards and policies, and developing and implementing maintenance and park inspection programs.
  • Develop and oversee budgets, including assisting in the preparation and administration of operating budgets, reviewing revenue and expense performance, and developing focused strategies on revenue generation.
  • Establish and maintain positive public relations, including developing and fostering a positive public image for NOVA Parks, collaborating with the Director of Marketing and Communications, and providing information to the public and special interest groups.
  • Perform administrative duties, including acting as a liaison between operations management and executive staff, interpreting and applying NOVA Parks' policies, regulations, and procedures, and preparing periodic and special reports.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited college/university with a bachelor's degree in park management or a closely related field.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in parks or conservation work, with two years at a Park Manager level, or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of principles, methods, and practices in park management, maintenance, and construction, as well as personnel management, business management practices, and outdoor education and historic interpretation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, prepare and present accurate reports, and work in unusual weather conditions and perform manual labor as required.
