Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Prisma Health, you will play a vital role in providing diagnostic patient care services using diagnostic medical sonography. Under the direction of the manager and medical director, you will work independently to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings, synthesizing sonographic information and medical history to communicate findings to physicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify patients using two demographic identifiers and review physician orders for procedures to be performed.
  • Perform all ultrasound procedures using independent judgment, ensuring imaging quality meets quality control standards.
  • Analyze sonograms, communicate findings to physicians, and maintain patient and family comfort.
  • Ensure patient flow is controlled for efficient use of equipment and maintain a sanitary and organized environment.
  • Comply with departmental downtime protocols, charge procedures and supplies, and troubleshoot improper charges.
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts, promote intra, inter, and external communications, and maintain ethical standards of relationships and communications.
  • Operate PACS systems, verify studies before sending to be read, and assure all appropriate consents are signed.
  • Familiarize yourself with HIPAA mandates, follow Prisma Health guidelines, and maintain a pleasant, helpful attitude during phone communications.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations, monitor conditions that may hinder or compromise patient care, and notify appropriate persons of unsafe conditions.
  • Mentor newly hired sonographers, instruct sonography students, and participate in supervision of students and volunteers assigned to the sonography department.
Requirements
  • Completion of a radiology or sonography program from an accredited institution.
  • No previous experience required, but sonography clinical experience, PACS experience, and EMR experience are preferred.
  • Credentialed Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within one year, with one or more of the following certifications: Abdomen, OBGYN, and Pediatric.
Work Environment

This is a night shift position at Prisma Health's Richland Hospital, with a focus on providing exceptional patient care and working collaboratively with the healthcare team.
