Job Summary:

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in performing ultrasound examinations to provide diagnostic information to referring physicians. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring high-quality images and accurate diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greets patients, explains the ultrasound procedure, and addresses their questions and concerns.
  • Selects the appropriate ultrasound machine and probe to obtain diagnostic information requested by the referring physician.
  • Applies gel to the patient's skin, applies the probe, and monitors the equipment to obtain high-quality ultrasound images.
  • Processes film and reviews images to confirm that they meet the radiologist's requirements.
  • Prepares initial diagnoses by identifying abnormal conditions for review by the radiologist.
  • Uses ultrasound equipment to assist providers in conducting invasive procedures.
  • Maintains equipment and examination rooms, stores film, and keeps inventory of related supplies.
  • Prepares patient information files with patient identification, date of exam, referring physician, and exam performed.
  • Prepares and submits reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
Requirements:
  • Minimum one year of full-time experience as a sonographer required.
  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Completion of an ARDMS accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen required.
  • Basic Life Support required.
Additional Requirements:

Non-Registered Sonographers may be considered; however, Sonographers must have met experience, education, and training requirements; and upon hire, Sonographer must sit for and pass abdomen and/or OB/GYN Registry within one year of employment.
