Position Summary

The Respiratory Care Assistant is responsible for delivering competent care to patients across all age groups, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, depending on the assigned area. This role requires the execution of skills and procedures validated by an accredited respiratory care program and sanctioned by the relevant state authority, performed under supervision in compliance with regulatory standards and clinical guidelines.

This individual will work under the guidance of the Respiratory Care Department leadership and Medical Directors, maintaining the standards of performance and skills as per departmental policies. A commitment to providing compassionate care and ensuring a positive experience for patients and their families is essential.


Key Responsibilities
  • Achieve and maintain competency in performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as per departmental standards, which encompass general care, critical care, emergency care, and diagnostic assessments.
  • Conduct general care activities, including patient identification, medical gas delivery, medication administration via nebulizers, and bronchopulmonary hygiene.
  • Manage critical care tasks such as initiation and management of ventilation, airway management, and monitoring of vital signs.
  • Respond to emergency situations, performing CPR and assisting in patient stabilization and transport.
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures, including blood sampling, monitoring, and pulmonary function tests, ensuring timely reporting of critical values.
  • Safely operate and troubleshoot necessary therapeutic and diagnostic equipment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Educate patients on disease management, tobacco cessation, and the use of respiratory care equipment.
  • Assist in the clinical training of respiratory care, nursing, and medical students, contributing to the orientation of new staff.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation and participate in care planning and evaluation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, in accordance with training and educational qualifications.

Qualifications

Applicants must be actively enrolled in or have recently graduated from an accredited respiratory therapy program. Proficiency in computer skills is required. If working in Ohio, a current Limited Permit License from the Ohio Respiratory Care Board is necessary.

Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.
