About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Automation Engineer to join our team at Michael Page. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing cutting-edge automated systems for thermoplastics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop automated manufacturing systems for thin, high-performance thermoplastics.
  • Lead research and development of advanced automation concepts.
  • Manage capital equipment projects, including justification, equipment selection or design, requisition, and implementation.
  • Integrate technology and custom automation into new or existing processes to enhance safety, quality, cost-efficiency, and throughput.
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to address technical needs and ensure follow-through.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team throughout the product lifecycle, from R&D to production support.
  • Support product qualification processes and facilitate transitions to high-rate manufacturing.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Design and conduct experiments to resolve design questions and troubleshoot complex system issues.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians, and perform other assigned tasks as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Preferred background in Robotics or Mechanical Engineering, though other engineering disciplines will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing automation and knowledge of materials and equipment for plastic part fabrication.
  • Understanding of machine design, basic electrical design, and common manufacturing practices.
  • Familiarity with plastic part fabrication techniques, including forming and sealing methods; experience with thermoforming is a plus.
  • Proficiency in engineering systems, analysis methods, and business tools.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn new software.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software.
  • Ability to specify automation hardware and software.
  • Working knowledge of control system design, PLC and HMI programming, and robotics.
  • Understanding of drawing standards, including geometric tolerancing.
