Job Overview

The Project Engineer at Jr. Davis Construction Company, Inc. plays a pivotal role in collaborating with the Project Manager and the project team to facilitate and manage the diverse processes involved in heavy civil construction projects. This position is crucial for ensuring that various elements of the project timeline are upheld by overseeing submittal approvals, coordinating the timely acquisition of materials, and managing schedules and budgets effectively.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate work schedules and manage design modifications or plan updates with project stakeholders.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of project scope while regularly consulting with field operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Review project requirements daily, adjusting the project schedule as necessary, analyzing specifications, collaborating with the production team, and tracking all contractual pay items.
  • Update the project timeline based on input from Field Operations in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Compile and distribute subcontractor bids and estimates, ensuring contract documents are available at the project site for management review.
  • Work closely under the guidance of Project Management.
  • Ensure adherence to Safety Policies, prioritizing safety in all operations.
  • Assist the Project Manager with project initiation and completion processes.
  • Process and track all submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs), including maintaining logs.
  • Create and uphold the Project Critical Path Method (CPM) Schedule with logical input from Project Management and Field Operations.
  • Support Project Operations by preparing two-week Look Ahead schedules, particularly for FDOT Projects which require weekly CPM look ahead with resource loading.
  • Attend and document minutes for Weekly Progress Meetings when not provided by the owner.
  • Coordinate with survey teams on project issues requiring survey input or RFI requests.
  • Verify that contract drawings align with Engineer of Record (EOR) revisions, RFIs, and CSI modifications.
  • Assist the Project Manager with quarterly Look Ahead Schedules and projected resource requirements.
  • Provide accurate field quantities with support from the project superintendent for billing, cost control, projections, and completion support, ensuring these quantities are entered into Heavy Job.
  • Assist in reviewing labor and equipment reports with field personnel concerning budget adherence.
  • Help in scheduling, tracking, and coordinating subcontractors and permanent material deliveries.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential, including familiarity with construction project management software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative office and field environment.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
