Job Summary:

The ICU Veterinary Technician will play a pivotal role in providing specialized nursing care and support to our most critical patients. This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires advanced skills and expertise in emergency and critical care medicine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Triage and Assessment: Quickly assess and prioritize incoming emergency cases based on severity, perform initial triage procedures to stabilize critical patients.
  • Emergency Medical Procedures: Administer emergency medications and fluids as directed by veterinarians, assist with emergency surgeries, including preparation, monitoring anesthesia, and post-operative care.
  • Diagnostic Procedures: Perform diagnostic tests such as X-rays, ultrasound scans, and laboratory work (blood tests, urinalysis), interpret diagnostic results to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Critical Care Nursing: Provide intensive care nursing to critically ill or injured animals, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and manage pain relief protocols.
  • Patient Monitoring: Continuously monitor patients in critical condition, including vital signs, ECG, and respiratory status, recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
  • Client Communication: Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding patient status, treatment plans, and prognosis, provide compassionate support and education on at-home care and follow-up instructions.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with veterinarians and other veterinary staff to ensure coordinated patient care, assist with patient hand-offs and relay important information during shift changes.
Requirements:
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a veterinary hospital setting, with a focus on ICU or critical care.
  • Proficiency in advanced veterinary nursing skills, including anesthesia monitoring, pain management, and critical care techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
