Pine Grove, California, United States University of California , San Francisco Full time
Position Overview

The Nursing Staff is responsible for delivering direct nursing care to adult and elderly patients experiencing a wide range of psychiatric conditions within the inpatient unit of the Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital. Under the general guidance of the designated charge nurse, nursing supervisor, and nurse manager, the psychiatric RN conducts nursing evaluations, administers prescribed medications, and executes established nursing interventions, leveraging current clinical expertise in psychiatric and medical disorders.

The nursing evaluation encompasses, but is not limited to, gathering vital signs, current medication lists, and comprehensive medical and psychiatric histories of patients. Based on the findings from these assessments, the nurse formulates and implements a tailored nursing care plan, updating it as necessary throughout the patient's stay. The nurse also provides education and information to patients and their families regarding prescribed medications and management of symptoms and illnesses. All medication administration, assessment findings, and nursing interventions are meticulously documented in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

This role includes on-site clinical supervision for Per Diem Clinical Nurse II's, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, unlicensed assistive personnel, and Registry Staff. The nurse is expected to competently assume charge in the absence of a Clinical Nurse III.

The Nurse collaborates effectively with a multidisciplinary team, which includes staff MDs, Resident Doctors, Social Workers, unit Rehabilitation Therapists, the unit Clerk, Hospital Assistants, and the Registration Coordinator. While nursing care is primarily provided in the Inpatient Unit, the Nurse also engages with other Intensive Service programs at LPPH&C, such as the Partial Hospitalization Program, Intake, Utilization Management, Consult Liaison Service, and personnel from UCSF Medical Center for patient referrals, admissions, and care coordination.

This position demands the ability to operate competently and professionally under pressure, requiring skills in crisis management and de-escalation techniques.

Compensation and Benefits

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Please note that the compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are broad; however, a job offer will typically fall within 80% - 120% of the established mid-point, taking into account the experience of the final candidate and the current salary levels of individuals in similar roles at UCSF.
