Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreational Therapist to join our team at UNC Health Appalachian. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will design and implement activity therapies to promote effective interactions, enhance coping skills, and foster independence in caring for oneself.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized activity therapies to meet the unique needs of patients
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure effective communication and coordination of care
  • Provide education and support to patients and families on coping skills, reality orientation, and independence
  • Ensure compliance with ARHS policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient experience and outcomes
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from an accredited institution; Master's degree preferred
  • One year of prior experience in a Behavioral Health setting; preferred
  • Licensed by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure
  • Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
  • Completion of Crisis Intervention (CPI) training within 1 year of hire
Working Conditions

This role requires frequent exposure to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, odorous chemicals and specimens, and unpleasant elements. You will also be subject to irregular hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Continuous standing and walking for long periods are required, as well as speaking, reading, and writing for extended periods.
