We are currently seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to contribute to our operations.

Program Objective:

This initiative offers comprehensive infrastructure support to a prominent federal agency, focusing on server architecture design, application hosting, maintenance, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards. You will be part of a team that integrates process-oriented IT operations with Lean engineering principles, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and delivering high-quality support services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in hands-on design and management of servers utilizing Oracle Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux in both cloud and on-premises settings.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to federal clients and developers in crafting Linux-based solutions, overseeing installation, and serving as a mentor for the operations and maintenance of a multi-tiered server infrastructure.
  • Lead the testing and deployment of services and applications developed by other contractor teams, ensuring compliance with federal policy requirements.
  • Monitor, assess, and plan for capacity while designing enterprise-level, fault-tolerant systems across various Linux distributions, supporting development initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in different functional areas to maintain and enhance server security.
  • Work in conjunction with internal and external team members to successfully complete daily tasks and ongoing infrastructure support projects, while leading efforts to improve standard operating procedures and technical documentation.
  • Identify hardware and software platform issues, collaborating with teammates to implement necessary patches and updates.
  • Support performance optimization and recommend enhancements, troubleshoot, and resolve performance-related issues, along with other assigned duties.
Experience Requirements:
  • At least 4 years of experience working with Linux servers.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Puppet.
  • Experience with patch management tools including Satellite and Oracle Linux Manager.
  • Proficiency in compiling and deploying open-source software.
  • Background in IT Engineering responsibilities.
  • Experience in secure, tiered application hosting environments.
  • Understanding of HTTP, DNS, Internet Protocol, and the OSI Model.
  • Experience in server vulnerability remediation in accordance with agency, DHS, and/or DoD STIG Guidelines, including SSL, DNS, and cipher issues.
  • Familiarity with data transfer protocols like GridFTP.
  • Professional IT experience in a large, distributed data center environment.
  • Experience managing SSL/TLS certificates for web servers (creation, application, troubleshooting).
Essential Skills:
  • Hands-on ability to design and continuously enhance Linux servers.
  • Capability to script and automate routine tasks in Linux environments.
  • Exposure to Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure engineering and/or administration.
  • Familiarity with load balancers such as F5 BigIP.
  • Experience with server management systems like BigFix or LANrev.
  • Knowledge of server and application deployment automation systems such as Kickstart, Jenkins, and Docker.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities.
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Proven communication skills with customers, team members, and management.
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of building, configuring, and monitoring web server components; LDAP Authentication and compiling open-source applications.
  • Programming or scripting experience in languages such as Java, C/C++, PHP, or scripting languages (BASH, Python, Ruby, Perl, etc.).
  • Established documentation skills.
Educational Background:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
Certifications:
  • One or more of the following certifications is preferred:
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
    • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
    • ITIL Foundations certification.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust/Suitability.
Communication Proficiencies:
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Capability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective communication across internal and external organizations.
Travel Requirements:
  • Availability for occasional after-hours and weekend support.
  • Willingness to work onsite as necessary.
Environmental Considerations:
  • Primarily sedentary work in an office environment.
  • May require lifting up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed.
