Job Title: Senior Linux System Engineer

As a Senior Linux System Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters. Your expertise will be instrumental in bridging the gap between our researchers and the HPC resources, enabling them to achieve their research goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and maintain the HPC hardware and operating system environments
  • Install and optimize scientific applications, including those for bioinformatics, genomics, and AI/ML
  • Monitor cluster performance, generate usage and trend data, and provide insights to leadership
  • Triage support requests from the research community and collaborate with the Scientific Infrastructure team to resolve issues
  • Guide researchers in effective use of HPC resources, including job scheduler submission, data formats, and data workflows
  • Engage with researchers to understand their HPC needs, including data life cycle management, integration of scientific instruments, and storage capacity and compute requirements
  • Provide input to the Scientific Infrastructure team leader on cluster operations, scheduling policies, and resource allocation
  • Attend and participate in daily standup meetings to provide updates, discuss obstacles, and coordinate tasks with team members
Requirements:
  • BS/BA (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Five years of related experience, including five years of experience with servers, datacenters, networking, and related technologies
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing Linux systems
  • Experience with Spack package manager, including making packages from PyPi, R, and Github
  • Experience installing and packaging GPU applications and optimizing job submission scripts for ML model training, data mining operations, or high-res graphics rendering
  • Experience with Python scripting, Git distributed workflows, Ansible, and Terraform
  • Ability to obtain a NIH Public Trust
