Job Title: Critical Care Director

Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Critical Care Director to join our team. As a Critical Care Director, you will be responsible for the overall direction of clinical, human resources, and financial management in the Critical Care Unit.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish departmental policies and procedures with input from nursing staff while ensuring compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in meeting Core Measure goals and continuously work towards improved Patient Satisfaction Scores for units.
  • Ensure timely and accurate root cause analysis of any adverse occurrence and implement appropriate actions and remediation.
  • Investigate and respond to patient grievances in a timely manner per facility policy.
  • Makes rounds on patients, staff, and physicians to discern their perceptions of whether we are meeting their needs.
  • Ensures compliance with National Patient Safety Goals through document review, staff, and patient interviews, and direct observation.
  • Designs and implements robust Performance Improvement activities for the department.
  • Oversees all facets of the day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Assists in the development of the department's budget and ensures compliance with budget.
  • Ensures that patient charges for supplies and all other resources used by patients in the unit or related to the department's services are complete, accurate, and are posted timely.
  • Reviews and revises unit Staffing Plan annually with input from the nursing staff.
  • Establishes work schedules and assignments to ensure coverage as demonstrated by maintaining appropriate staff ratios within approved budgetary guidelines.
  • Presents monthly staff meetings to include infection control, Performance Improvement, Core Measures, safety, new or revised policies and procedures, and any other item affecting the staff role.
  • Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons for the department.
  • Assesses the qualifications and competence of department personnel.
  • Provides for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department.
  • Establishes a work environment that results in low turnover rates.
  • Utilizes Peer Interviewing for new hires into the department.
  • Continuously works towards improved Employee Satisfaction Scores and institutes and evaluates action plans.
  • Follows the Nursing Peer Review process in handling nursing practice variances per facility nursing policy.
  • Coaches, counsels, or disciplines staff to ensure quality of work and adherence to hospital policies and procedures and compliance with all federal and state regulations.
  • Demonstrates competency in working in staff role on the unit as needed.
  • Ensures staff is able to have time away from the unit to attend in-services and committee meetings such as Performance Improvement, Nursing Peer Review, or Nursing Leadership Group.
  • Serves as a mentor for new and future clinical leaders.
  • Establishes an environment conducive to providing excellent learning opportunities for student nurses from area nursing schools.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) required, Masters Degree preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Texas, or license with a compact state required upon hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Life Support (PALS) certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of recent ICU/Critical Care experience in an acute care hospital setting with at least three (3) years in a management or Director level role required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively through written and oral presentations in a way that inspires understanding and trust.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information discreetly and with professionalism.
  • Demonstrates conflict management skills with the ability to tactfully navigate issues while building trust and bringing clarity to conversations.
  • Appropriate knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) and applicable requirements.
