Position Overview:

As a vital member of our team, the Engineering Technician will play a crucial role in supporting various projects within the traffic engineering sector. This position involves working on traffic signal systems and ensuring optimal performance through various engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and assess intersections under construction, proposing enhancements to signal timing as necessary.
  • Configure and calibrate signal cabinets, communication systems, and detection devices.
  • Collect and analyze traffic data to inform engineering decisions.
  • Design traffic control devices to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Conduct field reviews of work and timing plans, which may involve traveling to remote locations to collaborate with maintenance teams.
  • Document site conditions and validate work and timing plans based on field assessments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or project managers.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of traffic signal timing, control device design, and traffic engineering applications.
  • Proven experience in traffic engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with traffic signal optimization and simulation software, including Synchro and VISSIM.
  • Experience in traffic data analysis, data mining, and statistical methods; coding skills in Python are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of operational principles related to signal timing, data collection, and traffic signage.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software.

Work Environment:
  • Flexible scheduling is required, accommodating a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Work may be conducted outdoors, often along busy highways, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
  • Expectations include standing for extended periods, walking, lifting, and other physical activities.
  • Weekend, evening, and overtime work may be necessary.

Additional Information:

This position is essential, requiring all associated duties to be performed during emergencies, including adverse weather conditions and disaster response. A valid driver's license is mandatory, along with a DMV records check, pre-employment drug screening, and a fingerprint-based criminal history check.
