Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is looking for a dedicated professional to join our team as a Lead Transportation Engineer. This role is essential in ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions that enhance our transportation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project development teams to create comprehensive project concepts, detailed construction plans, and accurate cost estimates.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of engineering work performed by both internal staff and external consultants.
  • Provide expert guidance and support in the development of roadway designs and project cost assessments.
  • Utilize a thorough understanding of preliminary engineering to deliver effective consultation and support.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of preliminary engineering principles, including land development plan evaluations and traffic impact assessments.
  • Proficient in applying regulations and requirements to geometric design, drainage, traffic safety, and transportation planning.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and cost estimation.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities, with a focus on professional interaction with the public and colleagues.
  • Capability to research, analyze, and prepare detailed technical reports and project documentation.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, suitable for diverse audiences.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local transportation laws and policies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Professional Engineer's license.
  • Experience in traffic engineering and land use development.
  • Proficiency in utilizing engineering software applications.
  • Ability to negotiate and communicate complex technical information effectively.

Additional Considerations

Ideal candidates will have a proven track record in managing a variety of transportation projects, from design to implementation. Experience in developing project concepts for funding applications and a solid understanding of project management processes are highly desirable.
