Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled RN to join our team as a Utilization Manager. In this role, you will work collaboratively with physicians to coordinate and screen for the appropriateness of admissions and continued stays. Your expertise will be essential in making recommendations for bed day management and alternative levels of care when patients do not meet the medical necessity for inpatient hospitalization, skilled nursing, or post-acute benefits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transfer stable non-members to planned healthcare facilities, ensuring compliance with AB 1203, Post Stabilization notification.
  • Comply with other duties as described, including working collaboratively with peers, multidisciplinary teams, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Plan, develop, assess, and evaluate care provided to members, reviewing, monitoring, and authorizing the medical necessity of inpatient, skilled, or sub-acute admissions.
  • Perform all utilization review activities according to Resource Stewardship department policies and procedures.
  • Participate in clinical review rounds, preparing case presentations and documentation, and notifying facilities and others of review decisions in a timely manner.
  • Identify high-risk/high utilizers of services, monitor their intensity and level of services, and report potential high-dollar cases appropriately.
  • Recommend alternative levels of care and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Assess high-risk patients in need of post-hospital care planning, developing and coordinating the implementation of a discharge plan to meet patients' identified needs.
  • Document all necessary information timely into medical management systems, ensuring complete and accurate data.
  • Participate in Bed Huddles and/or telephonic concurrent review calls, carrying out recommendations congruent with patients' needs.
Requirements
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience as an RN in an acute care setting.
  • Graduate of a board-approved RN program and completed a minimum of 750 clock hours of faculty-planned clinical experience and guided learning activities.
  • Registered Nurse License (Colorado) and Basic Life Support certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize/apply the general and specialized principles, practices, techniques, and methods of utilization review/management, discharge planning, or case management.
  • Working knowledge or application of Milliman or Interqual clinical criteria.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards (TJC, Medicare, Medi-Cal, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize written and verbal communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing, conflict resolution, and negotiating skills.
  • Computer literacy skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Utilization Management experience highly preferred.
