Franchise and Distribution Attorney

We are seeking an experienced Franchise and Distribution Attorney to join our team at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. As a key member of our Business and Tax practice group, you will work closely with clients to handle a wide range of franchise law matters, with a focus on transactional and regulatory issues.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist clients in navigating franchise disclosure documents, traditional and exemption-based franchise programs, franchise and distribution agreements, franchise administration and compliance, and registration filings.
- Provide expert advice on franchise compliance matters, operating issues for franchise and non-franchise distribution systems, and developing and managing non-franchise programs.
- Work closely with our Business and Tax practice group to support clients in various industries with franchise law matters.
- 7+ years of experience in franchise and distribution transactional law, preferably in a mid-size or large law firm or in-house setting.
- Residency and active bar admission in one of the following states: AK, AZ, CA, CT, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, MT, NJ, NY, OK, OR, PA, RI, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WDC.
- Strong experience and familiarity with franchising and distribution transactional and regulatory matters.
- Demonstrated understanding of what constitutes a franchise and experience with franchise agreements.
- Experience defending clients against claims of franchise status based on knowledge of franchise law.
- Membership to the ABA Forum on Franchising and participation in prior Forum on Franchising meetings is preferred.
- Availability to work a part-time and variable amount of hours a week, with flexibility to increase or decrease hours as needed.
- Strong ability to support and stay connected with a remote, distributed team.
- High-level of responsiveness and client service abilities.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high-quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.
- Hourly compensation range of $140 - $175 per hour, commensurate with experience and skill level.

- Paid sick leave accrued on a biweekly basis at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked.

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT's flexible contract attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level. This role is unbenefited.
