Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Plant Engineer to join our Central Utilities Plant team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for engineering associated with the operations and maintenance of the plant, providing project management support for major maintenance and capital projects, and serving as a resource for plant personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering associated with the operations and maintenance of the plant
  • Project management support for major maintenance and capital projects
  • Serving as a resource for plant personnel
  • Assisting in the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the facility
  • Supporting EHS to ensure plant compliance
  • Serving as project liaison for campus district energy and distribution projects, accelerated capital renewal, and major repair operations
  • Maintaining accurate and updated site engineering drawings and documentation
  • Determining schedule, agenda, and program for annual testing and tabletop exercises
  • Serving as the contact for plant-specific IT systems
  • Developing and maintaining a master plan for future equipment replacement and capacity increases
  • Supporting CUP Maintenance Team on reliability-centered maintenance approaches to plant management
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of power plant experience
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of power plant systems, plant engineering, or mechanical design of CHP facilities
  • Demonstrated skills with plant performance improvement, environmental compliance, and safety and electrical distribution systems
  • Working knowledge of plant engineering processes
  • Robust analytical and time management skills
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships within and between work groups and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to represent the department in the overall MIT Community
