Job Description and Position Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Embedded Systems Engineer to join our team at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing real-time embedded systems that perform advanced data fusion algorithms.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, with a focus on embedded systems, real-time systems, and image science. They will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating electronic hardware, including discrete and mixed-signal circuits, and embedded processors.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing innovative problem-solving approaches to enhance organizational capabilities, collaborating with peers to expand technical capabilities, and identifying new research opportunities.

This position can be filled at multiple levels, depending on the candidate's education and experience. Typical requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or science-based discipline, with a Master's Degree preferred. The successful candidate will also have a strong understanding of model-based system design, requirements generation, and system-level design documentation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, and/or Matlab, and experience with estimation theory and applications, including those that use techniques in Machine Learning. They will also have experience with Vision-Aided-Navigation algorithms and techniques, and be able to lead and guide collaborative teams.

This position will require periodic travel to remote locations in support of testing as part of a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists. The successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
