Job Overview

Position Summary

The Service Center Supervisor is responsible for guiding, mentoring, and overseeing service shop staff to ensure an outstanding level of customer service is maintained by completing all tasks within the promised timeframe as efficiently as possible. This role involves regularly assisting management in the development of technicians through hands-on training, coaching, and necessary disciplinary actions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Distributes work in an efficient manner to achieve high-quality repairs and ensure that the estimated time of repair (ETR) is met.
  • Maintains consistent and precise communication with Service Writers and the Lead Uptime Technician.
  • Provides assistance to the Lead Uptime Technician as needed to guarantee maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Reduces customer wait times for new truck arrivals.
  • Collaborates closely with the quality control process for all repairs to minimize reworks, comebacks, and any customer dissatisfaction with Nextran products and services.
  • Challenges technicians with assigned tasks to promote skill enhancement.
  • Directly supervises technician trainees.
  • Offers technical support to technicians and management.
  • Monitors technician performance and provides coaching.
  • Schedules training sessions for technician skill advancement and certifications.
  • Ensures the tool room is organized and that the checkout procedures are adhered to.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization in each bay.
  • Ensures the safety of the shop floor.
  • Adheres to the Customer Contact and Communication Policy.
  • Follows all Nextran policies and procedures, including the company's commitment to customers.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed based on departmental requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the heavy-duty truck industry, managing or supervising technicians of Class 6, 7, and/or 8 trucks.
  • Possession of or ability to quickly obtain Master Tech Certification for OEM's Nextran services.
  • Capability to drive and access heavy-duty trucks; ability to squat, bend, and lift components while performing repairs.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to interact professionally with customers, technicians, shop foreman, service writers, and vendors.
  • Proficient in computer use.
  • Experience with Asist and/or Karmak software is advantageous.
  • Valid CDL license.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret graphical data.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve problems and manage various variables in situations with limited resources. Capable of interpreting diverse instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.

  • Required to stand and sit for long durations while making repairs.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to push/pull large tool chests between vehicles.
