Core Objective:
Facilitate the execution of educational programs within the classroom, focusing on self-sufficiency, behavior guidance, and instructional support. Operate under the general oversight of the principal and the direct supervision of a certified educator. In special education environments, assist the special education instructor in addressing the physical and educational requirements of students with disabilities.
Qualifications / Credentials:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Valid Texas Educational Aide Certification. Completion of a minimum of two years of higher education (48 semester hours of college coursework); or possess at least an associate's degree; or meet a rigorous quality standard and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, the knowledge and ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics or readiness in these subjects as appropriate.Essential Knowledge / Skills:
Proficiency in working with children with disabilities. Ability to adhere to verbal and written directives. Effective communication skills. Familiarity with general office equipment.Experience / Additional Requirements:
Experience in working with children is preferred.Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist educators in preparing instructional materials and classroom presentations. Help maintain an organized and tidy classroom environment. Support the inventory, care, and upkeep of educational equipment. Aid teachers in maintaining administrative records and compiling necessary reports. Provide orientation and support to substitute educators. Assist students with physical disabilities according to their individual needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning as required. Help manage student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations and addressing disruptive or hazardous behavior as necessary. Take responsibility for understanding and adapting to each student's unique medical, physical, communicative, and emotional requirements. Work with individual students or small groups to enhance motor skills and conduct instructional activities as directed by the teacher. Supervise students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including during lunch, on the bus, and on the playground. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or concerns regarding individual students. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information. Participate in professional development training, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned. Responsible for maintaining district records in accordance with all policies and understanding the records retention schedule for departmental documentation. Perform other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities:
