General Information:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking applications for a Chief Technology Officer for Library Services. This leadership role within the Discovery, Access, & Technology (DATech) unit is pivotal in establishing strong collaborations with fellow DATech leaders to further the unit's mission and strategic goals. The Chief Technology Officer oversees multiple teams, currently consisting of skilled staff members dedicated to enhancing the library's digital presence, managing library systems, and ensuring robust infrastructure for both cloud and on-premises solutions. This position also coordinates support services for library personnel and integrates third-party platforms to streamline workflows across departments.

The Chief Technology Officer will engage in organization-wide leadership initiatives and build collaborative relationships with other library directors overseeing technical systems and services.

This is a full-time administrative faculty position that offers a comprehensive benefits package and some flexibility in work arrangements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Chief Technology Officer will:

  • Lead the formulation and advancement of the Technology department's strategy, ensuring alignment with the Libraries' mission and objectives.
  • Collaborate with library leadership and stakeholders to establish and implement technology-related policies and standards.
  • Direct technology initiatives from conception to execution, including needs assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and project management.
  • Work across library units, IT departments, and external partners to achieve organizational goals and identify opportunities for technological innovation.
  • Supervise technology teams, providing direction and support to ensure their contributions align with the Libraries' mission.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the library's technological infrastructure and web presence.
  • Participate in leadership activities, professional development, and service initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A demonstrated ability to promote an inclusive and equitable work environment.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams effectively, including setting strategic directions.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies to oversee technology projects while fostering a culture of adaptability.
  • Experience in analyzing and designing technology solutions to meet evolving user needs.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles to safeguard digital assets and user privacy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A Master's Degree or equivalent experience in relevant fields.
