Job Summary

Covenant Health is seeking a skilled Health Unit Coordinator II to join our Cardiology team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional clerical and secretarial support to our nursing unit, ensuring seamless patient care and administrative operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform clerical duties related to patient procedures, including admission, discharge, transfer, and death.
  • Ensure timely notification of STAT orders to licensed nursing personnel.
  • Transcribe physician's orders accurately and efficiently, and notify consults as ordered.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepare related forms.
  • Manage unit stock and equipment inventories to maintain optimal levels.
  • Answer telephone and intercom calls, relay and document messages, and ensure timely follow-up on patient requests.
  • Assist physicians in obtaining reports from lab, radiology, and other departments.
  • Schedule patient tests, diagnostic procedures, and doctor's appointments as requested.
  • Organize patient charts in proper sequence, label, and replenish necessary forms.
  • Employ established infection control policies, including standard precautions, transmission-based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures, and proper body mechanics.
  • Act as a preceptor to HUC I staff.
  • Obtain patient records from other facilities.
  • Manage patient flow via flowboard, if applicable.
  • Ensure accurate discharge disposition in electronic medical records.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards, complete required education assignments annually, and work towards achieving goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • CNA, MA, or EMT certification at the time of hire.
  • Or, HUC I, PCA, CNA, MA, or EMT with six or more months of experience at a Covenant Health facility and completion of Covenant Health's Patient Care Assistant training protocol.
  • For HUC II working in Cardiac Areas, completion of Apex modules 1-6 and/or telemetry class completed prior to hire or placement in a HUC II role.
