Position Overview:

The Infectious Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory (IDDL) at Fairview Health Services is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) for a night shift role. This position operates from 8:30 PM to 7:00 AM, Monday through Friday, with a commitment to every third weekend and rotating holidays. Flexibility in scheduling may be required to accommodate departmental needs. Note that phlebotomy skills are not a prerequisite for this role.

IDDL conducts approximately 700,000 tests annually in the fields of Microbiology and Virology, encompassing a range of methodologies from manual culture readings to advanced PCR testing. Our laboratory excels in Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, and Virology.

This role is eligible for a Sign-On bonus of up to $5,000, alongside a shift incentive bonus of up to $2,000, distributed biannually. Bonuses are adjusted based on full-time equivalent (FTE) status.

Key Responsibilities:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) operates independently, executing all essential functions of professional laboratory practice. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing a diverse array of complex diagnostic and therapeutic tests.
  • Serving as a resource for problem-solving and interpreting test results.
  • Correlating data through clinical knowledge and technical expertise.
  • Collaborating with laboratory customers to enhance service quality.
  • Engaging in laboratory performance improvement initiatives.

  • Adhering to established protocols for specimen collection and work prioritization.
  • Identifying issues and implementing appropriate resolutions.
  • Evaluating test results for accuracy and necessary interventions.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, and Compliance Programs.
  • Orienting and mentoring new staff and students.
  • Adapting care and service delivery to reflect the developmental and cultural needs of the populations served.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant laboratory field, including the requisite lab practicum or equivalent as outlined in CLIA 88.
  • Possession or eligibility for HHS-approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also acceptable. If not certified, candidates must obtain certification within one year of hire.

Preferred:

  • Preference for a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
  • Certification in Microbiology is advantageous.
