Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated individual for the role of Lead Facilities Maintenance Worker CL2 within the Custodial Services division at Maine's Public Universities. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a clean and safe environment for our students and staff, while also providing opportunities for personal and professional growth through our educational benefits program.

Work Schedule & Location: This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week. Opportunities are available across various campuses with flexible scheduling options, including day, evening, and overnight shifts. Specific details regarding location and schedule will be discussed during the interview process.

Compensation and Benefits: The hourly wage for this position is $21.99, with an additional $0.80 per hour for shifts predominantly falling between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Our organization offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time and eligible part-time employees, which includes:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performing custodial tasks, including cleaning, operating equipment, using cleaning agents, waste disposal, furniture relocation, and reporting maintenance issues.
  • Adhering to safety protocols and operational standards.
  • Ordering supplies and gathering necessary materials and tools.
  • Coordinating project activities and supervising assigned crew members.
  • Inspecting completed work to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Providing guidance on processes and standards to team members.
  • Leading and directing the crew's daily activities.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with at least three years of relevant custodial experience.
  • Valid driver's license and successful completion of a driving history check.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and building occupants.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and perform tasks requiring bending and reaching.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience operating custodial cleaning machinery.
  • Previous leadership experience in managing a team or coordinating small-scale projects.
