The Veterinary Assistant plays a vital role in the hospital team, supporting and assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure the safety of pets, clients, and associates, and the continuity of quality veterinary care.
Key Responsibilities- Help maintain the flow of patients and communicate effectively with the veterinarian and vet techs.
- Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or vet tech assistance, adhering to hospital standards that keep pets safe and treatment areas clean and organized.
- Educate clients about our Optimum Wellness Plans and the importance of preventive care, mentoring other members of the hospital team.
- Assist veterinarian and vet techs during procedures by restraining animals, monitoring vitals, and administering medications.
- Provide compassionate care to animals while assisting veterinarians with medical and surgical procedures.
- Perform basic laboratory tests such as fecal analysis and urinalysis as directed by veterinarians.
- Educate clients on proper care of pets and administering medication at home, maintaining accurate records of treatments performed on each patient.
- Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant program or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to perform all required skills of NAVTA-approved veterinary assistant programs at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.
