Patient Access Representative

This role is responsible for performing a variety of administrative support duties associated with the patient intake process for the Franciscan Medical Group (FMG) outpatient clinics. The incumbent will interact with patients directly at the front desk and/or on the phone to perform follow-up activities.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure patient is checked in/out for care
- Collect and enter demographic and financial data in the patient's medical record
- Gather and validate insurance information using routine methods
- Schedule patient appointments
- Collect co-pays, co-insurance, and prior balances
- Obtain and process referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications for patients requiring ancillary testing and/or surgical procedures
- Work with patients to ensure their referral needs are fulfilled and determine insurance benefit coverage for hardware-related items
- One year of customer service work experience is required, two years preferred
- Healthcare or call center experience is preferred
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong customer service skills and ability to meet patient needs
- Knowledge of insurance authorization and billing requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology and the patient intake process
