Phlebotomy Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at MyMichigan Health. As a Phlebotomist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the timely and accurate collection of patient specimens for laboratory analysis.
Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service to patients of all ages, maintaining positive relationships and responding to their needs during invasive procedures.
- Accurately interpret physician orders to collect high-quality specimens, adhering to strict protocols and procedures.
- Perform invasive procedures, including venipuncture, micro-capillary collections, and central line draws, following exact protocols and procedures.
- Handle specimens, selecting the appropriate type to ensure high-quality, reliable test results, and provide timely distribution to ensure the shortest possible turnaround time.
- Fingerprinting
- Valid Driver's License required
- Equivalent Experience: In order to drive the company vehicle, must be eligible under the medical center insurance guidelines.
- High school diploma required
- Completion of a formal phlebotomy program that includes both classroom and practical (on-the-job) experience.
Other duties and responsibilities include:
- Following patient registration procedures where required.
- Following strict identification policies to accurately identify specimens.
- Demonstrating competency in infection prevention and control practices and policies.
- Following hand hygiene policies and utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Computer skills:
- Knowledge of multiple functions in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), Hospital Information System (HIS), and reference lab computers.
- Using the LIS computer to schedule workload and inpatient rounds, interpret test orders, and place them into the computer, retrieve billing information, and assist with patient registration.
- Communicating test results according to strict confidentiality standards.
- Adhering to all laboratory policies and procedures.
