Job Title: Claims Adjuster

The Claims Adjuster plays a crucial role in the management of claims administered by the Risk Management department. As a dedicated resource to Risk Management customers, the Claims Adjuster is responsible for handling and communicating property and casualty claims.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee claims, including complex litigation for cases in suit.
  • Analyze and interpret coverages on manuscript policies.
  • Coordinate reservation of rights letters to group self-insureds.
  • Make contacts, investigate losses, document facts surrounding the incident, and determine liability/compensability.
  • Explain benefits and close contact with claimants and their attorneys.
  • Use outside vendors to determine damages or mitigate exposures.
  • Identify and pursue fraudulent claims.
  • Investigate potential subrogation and pursue third-party recovery.
  • Use a strong diary system to ensure timely follow-up and monitor treatment, receipt of bills or records, reserve adequacy, negotiation of settlement, payment, and closure.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years' experience in an equivalent field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to work successfully in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to attend social functions for clients and carriers to build relationships.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Working knowledge and comfort level with claims management systems.
Work Environment:

This job operates in a clerical office setting. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. The ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary is necessary.
