We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Counselor to join our team at New York City Health + Hospitals Correctional Health Services. As a Mental Health Counselor, you will provide quality mental health care to incarcerated individuals who need and/or want services.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct mental health evaluations, crisis intervention, assessments, and follow-up care.
- Determine and coordinate disposition of patients for appropriate level of mental health care.
- Coordinate with Reentry Social Workers for appropriate discharge planning services.
- Complete required statistical reports.
- Collaborate with the Department of Correction to ensure access to patients, proper housing, and treatment disposition.
- Coordinate patient care with other institutional programs.
- Lead group treatment on mental health observation units and other units as assigned.
- Complete all required documentation.
- Participate in clinical supervision with Clinical Supervisor at least once a week.
- Participate in mental health and medical rounds as assigned.
- Participate in case conferences and treatment planning for patients receiving and being considered for mental health treatment.
- May conduct psychological testing as assigned.
- May supervise social work interns or student volunteers as assigned.
- Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- New York State License in Social Work, License in Mental Health Counseling, or licensure in Psychology.
- Valid license with over 5 years of full-time, paid, professional experience providing direct patient care in a behavioral health setting.
