Position Overview: The Dietitian, under the guidance of the Nutrition Services Manager, is expected to possess extensive expertise in clinical nutrition, therapeutic meal planning, and fundamental food service operations within a community health and interdisciplinary team environment. The Dietitian conducts thorough nutritional evaluations of participants and formulates dietary and lifestyle recommendations tailored to individual health objectives. This role involves gathering participant food preferences and monitoring compliance with dietary adjustments and health results. The Dietitian assesses the adequacy of current dietary habits and suggests nutritional supplements when deemed necessary. Regular meal and sanitation inspections are conducted to ensure quality standards. Nutrition education is provided to participants, caregivers, the community, and other team members as required.

The compensation for the Dietitian role at Center for Elders Independence is competitive, reflecting the market standards for this position and taking into account experience, skills, and professional background.

Key Responsibilities:

- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care plan discussions to review participant progress.

- Evaluate participant needs and create individualized nutritional care plans.

- Actively engage in team meetings, contributing insights and recommendations.


- Perform assessments for each participant and additional evaluations as needed due to changes in health status, weight, skin condition, meal preparation capabilities, laboratory results, mental health, or activities of daily living.

- Monitor therapeutic diet orders and special dietary modifications.

- Deliver nutrition education to participants, families, primary caregivers, and/or day center staff.

- Review daily lunch and snack menus for compliance with participant dietary requirements.

- Conduct meal rounds at the day center, providing feedback to staff regarding any observations or concerns.

- Carry out monthly kitchen surveys and diet order audits.

- Assess the need for home-delivered meal services and liquid nutritional supplements, making recommendations to the interdisciplinary team.

- Evaluate meal preparation as requested by team members or occupational therapists.

- Assist with meal service at the day center as necessary and monitor inventory levels in refrigeration, dry storage, and freezer areas.

- Order approved liquid nutritional supplements.

Update meal order lists for home-delivered meal services and day center meals, forwarding them to the contracted food service provider.


- Collaborate and communicate with CEI Home Care team members regarding participants' meal preparation skills, kitchen safety, grocery stock, and food and fluid intake at home.

- Maintain regular communication with contracted food service providers and other vendors.

- Supervise Geriatric Aide Lead responsibilities related to dietary expenditures, kitchen needs, and meal service monitoring, addressing nutritional concerns as they arise. Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures.

- Support the training of day center and dietary staff on food service-related policies.

- Engage in work area development, in-service training, and departmental meetings.

- Uphold the confidentiality of all company procedures, participant information, and family details.

- Adhere to all CEI policies and procedures.

- Comply with all agency training requirements.

- Ensure a safe working environment by following CEI's safety policies and procedures.

- Maintain a courteous, professional demeanor and demonstrate a willingness to assist all customer groups.

- Perform additional duties as assigned in a positive and constructive manner.

Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited institution in food and nutrition science is required.

Certification by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian is required.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

A current valid Food Manager Certificate (ServSafe) is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of clinical nutrition and therapeutic diets. Proficient in assessing the nutritional needs of seniors. Familiarity with medical terminology and the appropriate documentation for completing written assessments. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with employees, seniors, and the public.

Possession of a valid California driver's license and proof of auto insurance is required.
