Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Clinical Nutrition Specialist to join our Heart Transplant Unit at UC San Diego Health. In this role, you will be responsible for providing expert nutritional care to patients undergoing heart transplantation, working closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes. As a Clinical Nutrition Specialist, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert nutritional care to patients undergoing heart transplantation, including assessing nutritional needs, developing and implementing individualized nutrition plans, and monitoring patient progress.
  • Work closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care coordination and communication.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement evidence-based nutrition care plans.
  • Engage in ongoing education and professional development to stay current with the latest research and best practices in clinical nutrition.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of nutrition-related policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Foods and Nutrition or related field, and completion of an Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics internship.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) certification.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a clinical nutrition setting, with experience in transplant nutrition preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nutrition or related field.
  • Experience working with patients with complex medical conditions, including heart failure and transplantation.
  • Knowledge of critical care nutrition and experience working in an ICU setting.
  • Knowledge of cystic fibrosis care and experience working with patients with this condition.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with ability to communicate effectively with patients and families from diverse backgrounds.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time, career appointment position, working 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The hiring pay scale for this position is $80,883 - $106,759 per year, with an hourly equivalent of $38.74 - $51.13.
