The Emergency Medical Services Coordinator will serve as a crucial link between the healthcare system and local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers. This role includes acting as a hospital representative and advocate with local, regional, and state EMS agencies and advisory councils. The Coordinator will develop and execute a strategic business plan aimed at enhancing service line growth and operational quality.


This position is also responsible for fostering collaboration across all care settings within the hospital and throughout the region, including the EMS Resource Hospital network. The Coordinator will oversee compliance with the EMS Medical Director's protocols, clinical operating guidelines, and state regulations through various methods such as data analysis, quality management, and educational initiatives for both physicians and nursing staff.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the orientation program for new EMS providers, ensuring proper training and documentation of their progress.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of annual competencies for the EMS system.
  • Research and integrate current medical practices to enhance patient care outcomes, including documentation and training on new clinical practices.
  • Assess the educational needs of both new and existing providers, creating and maintaining ongoing educational programs for the EMS system.
  • Review prehospital patient care reports to identify trends and provide feedback to ensure compliance and improve patient outcomes.
  • Conduct inspections of transport and non-transport vehicles to verify adherence to system policies and state laws.
  • Ensure functionality of radio communication systems and that personnel are qualified Emergency Communication Registered Nurses (ECRN). Conduct quality assurance checks and provide necessary training.
  • Facilitate continuing education units (CEUs) for EMS agencies and hospital staff, covering courses such as ACLS, PALS, and ITLS/PHTLS.
  • Build relationships with EMS educational institutions to ensure quality clinical experiences for EMS students.
  • Assist in disaster drills and related activities for hospital emergency preparedness and EMS readiness.
  • Manage EMS resupply in accordance with state regulations and coordinate with hospital departments like Pharmacy and Central Supply.
  • Collaborate with EMS educational institutions to schedule clinical experiences within the hospital.
  • Support the Regional EMS System Director in engaging with regional healthcare coalitions.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
  • 5-10 years of experience in EMS (Preferred)
  • 2 years of supervisory experience (Preferred)

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
  • RN or Paramedic State License to be obtained within 3 months of hire
  • ACLS, PALS, PHTLS/ITLS instructor certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire

NAEMSE Level 1 Instructor certification to be obtained within 6 months.
