Position Title: Radiologic Technologist
PRIMARY ROLE:
Under the supervision of the Imaging Services Director and/or Manager, the Radiologic Technologist will perform a variety of imaging examinations, including Diagnostic Testing, Therapeutic Exams, and Moderate Interventional Procedures. The Medical Director of Radiology will provide clinical guidance on the tasks performed.
The Technologist is responsible for ensuring the correct identification of patients for imaging procedures, assessing physician orders for accuracy and relevant clinical details, and executing comprehensive, precise, and high-quality Diagnostic or Therapeutic exams. The patient demographic may range from neonates to geriatric individuals. After completing the imaging exam, the Technologist must finalize the necessary documentation and notify the Radiologist that the images are ready for review. Additionally, the Technologist may be called upon to assist with other responsibilities as directed by Imaging management, particularly during busy periods.
REPORTING TO: Director of Imaging Services and Manager of Imaging Services
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Current BLS certification (must be maintained during employment)
- Registered Technologist credentials are required –
- For Radiography, registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is mandatory. Technologists wishing to transition to a different modality must achieve registration within 18 months of their transfer.
- Ohio Department of Health (ODH) License is required
- Demonstrated clinical and theoretical knowledge
- Ongoing Continuing Education credits to maintain registration and organizational membership
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic computer skills with proficiency in PACS/RIS navigation
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Medical Imaging
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Individuals in this role may encounter:
- Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and airborne pathogens, necessitating the use of protective equipment.
- Physical demands including pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, turning, crouching, and bending as required for imaging tasks.
- Availability to work weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts as needed.
- Compliance with Short Term Hours Reduction (STHR) policies.
- Adherence to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure.
POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
Unit-Specific Responsibilities:
Radiation Safety and Equipment Management
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct quality control as specified, including:
- Implementing proper tube warm-up procedures
- Performing modality-specific quality control (phantom imaging, cassette maintenance, etc.)
- Collaborating with Field Service Engineers to ensure equipment functionality and image quality
- Apply radiation safety protocols in daily operations:
- Utilizing ALARA methods to limit radiation exposure
- Employing protective barriers, lead aprons, and shields as necessary
- Collimating and shielding to reduce patient radiation exposure
- Participating in data collection for the Radiology Quality Assurance Committee
- Adhering to Safe Operating Procedures for equipment
- Working closely with medical physicists to comply with ODH regulations on radiation safety
- Routine Duties:
- Reviewing physician orders for accuracy
- Verifying patient identity using two forms of identification
- Setting appropriate KVP and MAS exposure parameters
- Positioning patients accurately for optimal imaging
- Executing exams to yield quality images for physician analysis
- Processing image data for physician review
- Providing patient education as necessary
- Educating hospital staff as required
- Collaborating with Radiologists/Physicians during procedures to ensure optimal patient care
- Responding effectively in emergency situations to achieve the best patient outcomes
- Exhibiting strong time management and organizational skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently
- Safely transporting patients within the facility
- Monitoring patients for needs, safety concerns, or fall risks
- Utilizing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and following infection control protocols
- Accurately documenting examination details in PACS, RIS, and other necessary systems
- Demonstrating sound judgment in decision-making
- Assisting with departmental workflow
Additional tasks as assigned by unit leadership may include but are not limited to:
- Supporting other modalities to maintain patient flow during peak times
- Assisting with clerical management to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Entering correct charges and exams upon study completion
- Responding to phone inquiries promptly and courteously, relaying relevant information as needed.
