Position Overview

Schedule: 7P - 7A, Saturday and Sunday; 24 hours/week

MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated Advanced Sonographer to enhance our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

In this role, you will support the Ultrasound Supervisor in managing daily operations and workflow of the ultrasound team. Your responsibilities will include operating ultrasound machinery to capture images of specified body areas as directed by physicians. This position is designed for individuals currently holding a Clinical Sonographer I role or its equivalent and may involve mentoring new staff. Your expertise will encompass a range of ultrasound procedures, from basic to advanced. You will also coordinate and facilitate educational programs within the unit.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as a senior resource and team leader, coordinating the workflow of Clinical Technologists and staff. Review and suggest updates to policies and procedures as needed, focusing on leadership and professional development.
  • Evaluate ultrasound images produced by Clinical Technologists and students to ensure diagnostic quality, providing guidance on enhancing image clarity. Maintain quality control over images, verifying patient data and orders. Execute complex ultrasound procedures in addition to standard responsibilities. Conduct daily quality assurance checks for RIS (Cerner and PACS) to address errors.
  • Serve as a mentor and educational resource for new hires and students, participating in quality assurance initiatives and acting as a liaison among physicians, technical staff, and management. Gather technical data to establish and uphold best practices.
  • Engage in research, product development, and process enhancement projects. Present intriguing case studies during staff meetings and participate in departmental committees and task forces.
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures, demonstrating mastery of all routine procedures. Engage in continuous quality improvement efforts and contribute to the development of departmental goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or 1-3 years of formal training in an accredited ultrasound program, meeting the standards for Professional Practices, Clinical Practices, Leadership, and Quality Improvement.
  • 3-4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Possession of at least two pertinent registrations.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist certification is preferred.
