Job Title: Substance Use Counselor II

Join our multidisciplinary treatment team as a Substance Use Counselor II at the University of Maryland Medical System. As an integral member of our team, you will be responsible for evaluating patients and coordinating individual and group counseling through the use of patient education, behavior modification, and relapse prevention.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform a full range of clinical counseling services for patients and demonstrate unit-focused leadership in clinical practice, professional development, service quality, or unit operations.
  • Participate in or develop a Performance Improvement Initiative.
  • Assist with education and development of Counselor I and interns.
  • Lead activities to promote Joint Commission readiness and ongoing monitoring.
  • Participate in unit-based research activities, council, or committee to enhance quality of counseling practice.
  • Develop an interest in a service specialty by engaging in or developing opportunities in the specialty.
  • Pursue membership in a professional organization and demonstrate active participation.
  • Demonstrate support and compliance with the University of Maryland mission, vision, values, philosophy, goals, objectives, and policies.
  • Identify areas impacting unit operations and assist in developing/implementing action plans.
  • Contribute to the development of unit-based peer review processes; actively participate in peer feedback and case reviews.
Qualifications:
  • An Associate's degree is required.
  • A Certified Supervised Counselor- Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD), Certified Associate Counselor- Alcohol and Drug (CAC-AD), Licensed Graduate Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LGADC), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), or Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW) certification is required.
  • At least two years of Substance Use Disorder Counseling experience is preferred.
