Position Overview
The Student Support Specialist plays a crucial role in facilitating the necessary services that enable online learners to successfully complete their degrees. This position also assists the leadership in overseeing the Student Services Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides guidance to adult, graduate, and online learners regarding all aspects of their programs, motivating them towards degree completion.
- Addresses student inquiries or directs them to the appropriate department or individual.
- Maintains open and timely communication with students about policies, procedures, and any modifications to schedules.
- Assists students in navigating Blazenet and Canvas platforms.
- Manages student enrollment documentation and oversees degree completion planning and registration processes.
- Collaborates with faculty to ensure timely reporting of grades and attendance; counsels students regarding attendance issues via phone and processes attendance records.
- Organizes orientation sessions for new students and information sessions for current students.
- Generates and disseminates reports and spreadsheets related to new student data, enrollment statistics, and retention rates.
- Regularly reviews the university website, catalog, and student handbook for necessary updates and revisions.
- Develops a comprehensive understanding of the Adult, Graduate, and Online Student Services Handbook.
- Handles Course Withdrawals, Program Withdrawals, no-shows, drops, Program changes, Concurrent Entry approvals, and other related tasks in accordance with university policies.
- Gains in-depth knowledge of the procedural manual for Adult, Graduate, and Online Student Services.
- Participates in staff and committee meetings as required.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- A bachelor's degree is mandatory; a master's degree is preferred. Candidates with experience in Christian higher education or organizations will be prioritized. Strong verbal and organizational skills are essential, along with a friendly demeanor and a readiness to engage with both the public and academic communities on behalf of the university. While experience in college admissions, marketing, or counseling is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite if the candidate demonstrates strong communication abilities and is detail-oriented.
