Key Responsibilities

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering nursing care to designated patients under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse (RN) or another designated supervisor. The LPN gathers data through careful observation and relays information to assist the RN and/or healthcare provider in patient evaluation and care planning. As a vital member of the healthcare team, the LPN accepts delegated tasks from the RN/supervisor and provider to meet the needs of patients and their families. Care is delivered in alignment with the patient care plan, organizational policies, and the principles of relationship-based care. The LPN is expected to possess strong communication skills, demonstrate proficiency in mentoring and instructing, and may participate in committees or projects, including those focused on quality improvement.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program or successful completion of LPN Boards after a specified duration in a professional nursing curriculum is required. If graduation occurred more than two years ago, at least one year of relevant LPN experience is necessary.

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include one year of LPN experience within the last five years. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Experience in a collaborative team environment is required. Proficiency in computer skills is necessary, with prior experience in electronic medical record systems being advantageous. Flexibility in working hours may be required to meet staffing demands. The ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the workplace is crucial. Graduation from an accredited practical nursing institution is preferred.

Licensure or Certification:

A current LPN license in accordance with state regulations is mandatory. In Arizona and Florida, maintaining current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers is required. In the Midwest, BLS certification must be obtained from recognized programs such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Additional specialty certifications or training may be necessary based on the specific work area.

12-hour shifts from 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Flexibility to float to various locations may be required to address patient care needs.
