About the Role

PUC Schools is a non-profit network of public charter schools dedicated to increasing high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles and the North-East San Fernando Valley.

We are seeking a qualified 8th Grade Science Teacher to join our team at PUC Excel Charter Academy. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education and committed to helping students achieve academic success.

Responsibilities
  • Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment
  • Build professional knowledge and develop lesson plans according to California state standards
  • Organize classroom systems and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
  • Develop and maintain IATs (lesson plans) and prepare lesson plans for substitute teachers
  • Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college
  • Build strong relationships with students and parents and communicate with parents/guardians on a weekly basis
  • Identify areas for improvement and work with students, families, and internal resources to suggest options for improvement
  • Provide continual assessment of student progress and maintain student records and portfolios
  • Conduct student and teacher-led parent conferences and collaborate with the Inclusion Specialist to meet the needs of all students
  • Attend and participate in Academic Success Team, Parent/Teacher Advisory Council, and other school-based meetings and activities
  • Perform disseminated leadership duties and attend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school year
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Preliminary or Clear Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential
  • University Internship Credential eligible (Intern eligibility letter required)
  • Qualification for a permit if the applicant does not possess a credential
  • Satisfy Basic Skills Requirement (met through coursework and/or passing scores on standardized tests, CBEST, SAT, ACT, etc.)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid knowledge of the subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessments
  • Knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Able to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
  • Alignment with core characteristics required of every PUC employee: pursuit of excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticity
  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
  • Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position
