Radiation Therapist Specialist

**Job Summary:**

The Radiation Therapist at Guthrie is responsible for administering therapeutic doses of radiation as prescribed by the physician for the treatment of disease. This position requires a high level of technical skill and attention to detail, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Plan, simulate, and deliver the prescribed course of radiation therapy.
  • Check and maintain beam direction devices, protective devices, and heavy equipment, and keep records of same under the supervision of a physicist.
  • Perform daily warm-up and quality assurance procedures on linear accelerators, reporting any deviations to the physicist.
  • Assist in high-dose rate afterloading procedures.
  • Schedule treatment appointment times and SIM check in EMR and submit charge tickets.
  • Verify patient identification, prescription, and diagnosis before treatment.
  • Deliver prescribed doses of radiation and maintain accurate daily records.
  • Maintain visual and audible communication with patients during treatment and simulation.
  • Identify changes in patient treatment setups and report to the physician or physicist as necessary.
  • Apply permanent and temporary markings as required.
  • Observe patient clinical progress and report any complications to the physician.
  • Set up simulator rooms for procedures, take localization films, and assist with treatment.
  • Explain procedures to patients, including means of communication during treatment and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain and document accurate radiation therapy records and quality measures.
  • Record statistical data, including weekly and monthly statistics.
  • Apply radiation safety rules and regulations, detect radiation hazards, and provide public safety in the event of a radiation accident.

**Requirements:**

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with additional skills training and certification.
  • Two years of experience in radiation therapy, with certification as a Radiation Technologist (ARRT).
  • Minimum of six months of experience in a related field.

**Compensation:**

The salary for this position ranges from $35.15 to $55.67 per hour.
