Job Summary

Tucker Construction is seeking a skilled and experienced Hillman (Chuleador) to join our team. The Hillman (Chuleador) is responsible for assisting with grading and earthmoving operations on construction sites, ensuring proper site preparation and maintaining grade specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate Heavy Equipment: Assist with the operation of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, graders, and excavators, to achieve precise grading and earthmoving tasks.
  • Site Preparation: Work closely with the grading crew to ensure site preparation meets project specifications and standards.
  • Grade Stakes and Reference Points: Use grade stakes and other reference points to guide equipment operators and maintain proper grade alignment.
  • Grade Measurement: Monitor and measure grade elevations using leveling instruments and tools to ensure accuracy.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with the crew and site supervisors to ensure smooth operations and resolve any issues.
  • Safety Protocols: Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Hillman (Chuleador) or similar role in the construction industry.
  • Education: Minimum 1-year related experience.
  • Skills: Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.
  • Physical Abilities: Proficient in using leveling instruments and tools for grade measurement.
  • Communication Skills: Strong understanding of construction site safety practices and regulations.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors.
  • Physical Demands: Physical ability to perform tasks that involve lifting, standing, and operating equipment for extended periods.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Safety Consciousness: Exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Ability to interpret blueprints/plans and construct accordingly.
  • Driver's License: Valid Driver license.
  • OSHA Certification: OSHA 30 preferred (but not required).
  • Specialized Skills: Ability to set up & use effectively, site level, grade laser, pipe laser and straight-line level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Heavy Equipment Operation: Experience with heavy equipment operation, particularly in grading and earthmoving.
  • Bilingual: Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
