Job Summary

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a highly skilled professional responsible for providing diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. This role requires a strong foundation in sonography practices, clinical skills, and department operations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate Program Activities: Ensure consistent delivery of quality patient-centered care and efficient operations in support of hospital goals and objectives.
  2. Lead Sonography Programs: Develop, implement, and assess sonography programs, patient-care protocols, standards of care, policies, and procedures.
  3. Perform Sonographic Examinations: Conduct all requested sonographic examinations as ordered by the attending physician, prepare preliminary reports, and coordinate with other staff as necessary.
  4. Engage with Partners: Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance the SPMC mission and vision, participate in professional groups/associations, and lead SPMC work groups, projects, and committees.
  5. Special Projects: Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Three years of experience required, five years of experience preferred, with experience in routine, vascular, OB, and breast ultrasonography.
  • Active certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate.
  • Advanced working knowledge of sonography practices, clinical skills, and department operations.
  • Ability to cultivate effective partnerships and work in collaboration with providers, other healthcare professionals, caregivers, patients, and community members.
  • Strong leadership, facilitation, delegation, and coaching skills.
  • Proficient in the use of current technology, including Microsoft Office products, and ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment.
  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements

The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will be required to:

  • Lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Carry up to 35 pounds.
  • Push or pull objects weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Sit for extended periods.
  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Walk for extended periods.
  • Bend or stoop occasionally.
  • Crouch occasionally.
