This position involves designing the high-voltage battery management system and collaborating closely with hardware and software engineers across various functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Define requirements for diverse performance prediction algorithms.
  • Develop algorithms to assess the State of Energy (SOE) and State of Power (SOP) of battery packs.
  • Validate models and algorithms using Model-in-the-Loop (MIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Processor-in-the-Loop (PIL), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) techniques at the battery pack level.
  • Ensure model parameters for tracking and prediction algorithms align with data gathered during controlled cell testing.
  • Create testing strategies, models, and algorithms to identify and resolve issues early in the design process.
  • Optimize algorithms to function within real-time computing constraints, including CPU cycles, memory, and power consumption.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management Office (PMO) to execute the build plan.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 10% as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required; a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Control Systems with a focus on battery modeling and gauging is preferred.

A minimum of five years of proven experience in battery algorithm development is essential (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).

Experience in developing battery prediction algorithms such as State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), State of Power (SOP), and State of Energy (SOE) is required.

Proficiency in creating battery cell models (e.g., Equivalent Circuit Model, Particle Model) for system simulation is necessary.

Familiarity with advanced control techniques, including Extended Kalman Filters (EKF), state observers, machine learning, and multi-parameter optimization techniques, is expected.

Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and Simscape, including MATLAB optimization toolboxes, is essential.

Understanding of rechargeable Li-Ion chemistries, their limitations, and control opportunities is crucial.

Strong mathematical skills to address complex control challenges are required.

Programming experience in languages such as C and C++ for real-time applications is necessary.

Data analysis and scripting skills, preferably in Python, to manage large datasets are required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational abilities and attention to detail, are essential.

Must demonstrate the capability to independently prioritize and manage tasks within time constraints.

Additional Contributions:

Experience in the aviation sector with knowledge of DO-178C compliance for software development is preferred.

Compensation:

The offered base pay may vary based on skills, experience, job-related knowledge, and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of the total compensation package.
