POSITION: Special Education Teacher for Students with Cognitive Impairments (K-5)

SALARY: According to the current Teacher Salary Schedule

JOB SUMMARY: Oakland Schools is seeking an enthusiastic Special Education Teacher dedicated to supporting students with Cognitive Impairments. The successful candidate will foster a positive educational atmosphere, uphold high academic standards, and collaborate effectively with families and educational staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Cognitive Impairment (SA) preferred; other Special Education endorsements will also be considered.
  • Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Strategies (PBIS).
  • Knowledge of Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA) and Behavior Support Plans.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and technology skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver instruction to students in various formats, including whole class, small group, and individualized settings, utilizing diverse teaching strategies.
  • Guide students towards achieving curriculum and IEP goals.
  • Implement and maintain a PBIS classroom management system.
  • Assess student progress and collect data to document achievements towards IEP objectives.
  • Supervise and support paraeducators working with students in both general and special education environments.
  • Engage in regular communication with team members, including the School Social Worker, Speech & Language Pathologist, and Administrators.
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents regarding student performance through various methods.
  • Participate in the planning, execution, and documentation of IEPs at least annually.
  • Prepare instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Monitor student behavior in and out of the classroom.
  • Implement student medical plans as necessary.
  • Assist with personal care needs as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
