Overview:

The AVP and Assistant General Counsel for Employee Benefits at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company will deliver strategic legal guidance in a leadership role, advising human resources partners on a range of domestic and international employee benefit issues. This includes areas such as retirement plans, deferred compensation schemes, health and welfare benefits, and executive compensation structures. The position also encompasses providing legal support on fringe benefits, employment regulations, payroll issues, global mobility, and related topics for the organization. Additionally, the role requires leading legal support for compliance matters associated with global mobility initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer legal expertise on ERISA plans
  • Advise on deferred and executive compensation frameworks
  • Assist in the review of general commercial agreements for benefit programs
  • Provide legal insights on employment and corporate taxation
  • Conduct legal training sessions for business stakeholders
  • Support compliance efforts for global mobility programs
  • Contribute to M&A legal activities

Qualifications:

  • At least 12 years of experience in legal counsel
  • Juris Doctorate degree is mandatory
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. benefit regulations including ERISA, IRC, HIPAA, and COBRA
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal abilities
  • Active member of a state bar in good standing

Compensation Range: $157,800 - $210,400
